Hamta Pass – Chandertal – 8 Days

Charismatic Chandratal lake also known as “Moon Lake” located at an altitude of 4200 m in front of massif of Chandra –Bhaga mountain range, its reflection on lake is mesmerizing that attracts the numbers of adventure enthusiasts from across the world.
Trek starts from Manali through lush green forest, alpine meadows (in summer full of wild flowers) to the semi-desert regions of Lahoul over Hampta pass elevated 4200m. On a clear day one can have an excellent view of Indrakila, Deo Tibba and Indraasan peaks. Descend to Chandra valley and take a scenic drive along river bed, you are accompany by rugged terrain and snow caped mountains till the legendary lake of Chandra Tal.

Day 1: Manali Jagatsukh / Bhanara (Drive) trek Tilgan Thach (2650 Mts.) (04 hrs.). Trek 1
Day 2: Tilgan – Sarotu (3300mts.Apprx.) (6 -7 Hrs.) Trek 2
Day 3: Sarotu Thach – Piyangniru (3,600m.Apprx.) (6 -7 Hrs.) Trek 3
Day 4: Piyangniru – Chhika (3200m.Apprx.) Trek 4, around 6 Hrs.
Day 5: Chhika to Balu Gyra (3300 mtrs) 5 hours; Trek 5
Day 6: Balu Gyra to Shea Gahru (3700 mtrs) over Hamta pass (4200 mtrs) 5 to 6 hours; Trek 6
Day 7: Shea Gahru to Chhatru (3360 mtrs); Trek 7, Side trip to lake Chandra tal.
Day 8: Chhatru to Manali, 76 kms (1950 mtrs )

Day 1: Manali Jagatsukh / Bhanara (Drive) trek Tilgan Thach (2650 Mts.) (04 hrs.). Trek 1

Ascent through the villages, Himalayan deciduous Alpine Forest, once the tree line is passed the camp is set in the meadow with excellent view of the valley.

Day 2: Tilgan – Sarotu (3300mts.Apprx.) (6 -7 Hrs.) Trek 2

Over the high altitude meadows, first gradual climb through the open meadows initially providing awesome mountains cape, takes one to the High altitude meadows of Sarotu . Here local Shepard’s of Kullu Valley graze their herds of sheep’s and goat.

Day 3: Sarotu Thach – Piyangniru (3,600m.Apprx.) (6 -7 Hrs.) Trek 3

Over the high altitude meadows of Raurikhaudi (4,200 Mts) First gradual climb through the open meadows initially providing awesome mountains cape, takes one to the High altitude meadows of Raurikhaudi. On the way, one can have a good scenic beauty of a small mountain tarn in the meadow, where local Shepard’s of Kullu Valley graze their herds of sheep goat. We trek further through the meadow and Next is steep descent through the rhododendron bushes and birch trees with splendid view of Mount Deo Tibba (6001 Mts.), to the base of the mountain (Piyang niru). An absolute Alpine area with massive glacier and moraine, the sight of the Deo Tibba Mountain from Piyangniru, fascinate all the trekkers, camp at Piyangniru.

Day 4: Piyangniru – Chhika (3200m.Apprx.) Trek 4, around 6 Hrs.

An early start, trek from Piyangniru, in the Valley floor along the stream, which originates from the Deo Tibba Glacier and the Deo Tibba slowly drifts away. The whole area is surrounded by high summits, hanging glacier, and massive moraine. This is true alpine zone that we are trekking in. Finally we get to the beautiful meadow of the Marhi, further we descend to the other side of the Valley at Jobri, camp at Chhika.

Day 5: Chhika to Balu Gyra (3300 mtrs) 5 hours; Trek 5

The trail begins by flat walking through the forest of Mapple, Silver Fir, Pine and Oak, paved by the grass and stone and fields of the wild flowers. We have to cross the river twice, the bank sloping down from the high cliffs all around and ideal location for the end of the day.

Day 6: Balu Gyra to Shea Gahru (3700 mtrs) over Hamta pass (4200 mtrs) 5 to 6 hours; Trek 6

The trail begins to ascend toward to the mighty Hamta pass and soon the distant valley of Lahoul/Spiti comes in the view. From the pass one can enjoy the view of magnificent Himalayan peaks like Deo Tibba, Indra Asan, Indra Kila. Slowly landscape starts getting rugged, after one hour’s descend to the meadow of Shea Gahru, beautiful campsite on the foot of the glacier is reached.

Day 7: Shea Gahru to Chhatru (3360 mtrs); Trek 7, Side trip to lake Chandra tal.

The trail descends toward the left bank of the, ‘nalla’. Soon the Chandra River is in view, after 3 hours of trek reach the beautiful campsite, after lunch drive to Chandra tal.
One of the most beautiful drive offers you a wonderful view of the Chandra valley and the beautiful lake in its lap. The lake got its name because of crescent shape like a moon. The sweet water lake is around 2.5 km wide. Evening back to chhatru.

Day 8: Chhatru to Manali, 76 kms (1950 mtrs )

Scenic drive by Snake curved road to the Rohtangpass (3950 mtrs ) providing a magnificent view of surrounding Himalayas. Long descend of 51 kms, through fields of wild flower and cascading waterfall accompany you till Manali, overnight in a hotel with breakfast only. End of service.

Cancelation Policies

Cancellation: All the cancellation must be in written and signed by the person who signed the booking form and will be effective from the date of the reception by the company.

  1. 40 days or more before departure: The agency will refund the entire paid amount to his client deducting the registration fee of 30% per persons.
  2. 20 to 30 days before departure: The agency will charge the 50% of total tour amount as registration fee .
  3. Less than 20 days before departure: The agency will be obliged to withhold the full amount of the deposit paid by the customer.
  4. Liability: The Company cannot be made liable for the consequences of weather condition, flight cancellations, war or threat of civil war, strikes, industrial action, political unrest or any other force majeure, unusual or unforeseen circumstance. The company reserves the right to use alternate transport, or vary the itinerary if breakdown, sickness or any other force major. Any additional that result, such as extra hotel accommodation, flight or road transport will be on your charge and must be paid directly at the spot.
  5. Please understand, there are certain hazards involved in your adventurous and culture holidays which you must accept at your own risk. The company will not be liable for any illness major or minor injury, death sustained during neither the trip, nor it will be liable for any uninsured losses of your property and other losses during the trip.

  6. Travel insurance: This is mandatory for all clients travelling on any tour/ trek or independent itinerary arranged by us. You are responsible for obtaining adequate insurance covering expenses of unexpected, the loss of baggage, medical expenses, helicopter (air or ground) rescue, injury, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment of the itinerary.

What to carry for trek in Mountains / Himalaya

Clothing and advise

Due to wide range of temperature and climate conditions, it is advisable to bring appropriate clothing. For protection against cold a layered clothing is better than a few thick ones, so choose your cloths accordingly. Cloths should be preferable be made from natural materials which allow the body to breath better. You will be offending people if you walk around in skimpy or tight fitting clothes. Although there are normally opportunities to wear shorts, it is strictly forbidden to be with short in any religious places as monasteries and temples. We would advise women to wear shirts or loose trousers, men should not wear singlet

What you should pack for the trip in mountain

Warm jacket type of gore axe or else, Raincoat, full sleeve Pull over, 2-3 pairs of long and short sleeves /Shirts, Track paint, trekking shoes, Sneakers for river crossing ( where applicable ), Camp shoes ( Sleepers ), 2 pairs of Gloves, 2-3 pairs of warm socks + normal socks, Sunglasses / Spare glasses or contact lenses, Sun hat / cap, Scarf, sun cream, lips balm to protect the lips, Washing kit, toilet kit including light towel, A small sewing kit, Safety pins, torch or flash light with spare batteries, Camera with spare batteries and cards, battery Charger ( used while in villages) , Back pack ( 60-70ltrs ) day sac ( 35 Ltrs ) , water bottle, If it is early or late season required the pair of gaiters to walk on the soft snow over the passes (in case of bad weather) and walking sticks if one required, personal medical kit as per your medical advisor. Sleeping bag (-10/-15°C ) small pillow if you required , A light towel, a knife, a role of toilet paper, a plastic bowl for shaving ( for men ), a large plastic bag to protect your clothing inside the back pack and, wet tissue paper, fanny pack to keep safely your important docs as passport, insurance paper, credit cards, cash etc. Your personal medical kit. walking stick those required.

Climate

Due to the vastness of country climate is vary in different part of Indian states as from plains of India to the mountains of Himalaya. Where summer Temperatures can be minimum 10 to 20°C and maximum 25-30°C. But while in bad weather temperature can go under Zero, so please be prepared accordingly.

What minimum should be in your first aid kit

Preparation of relief of sun burn, Lip salve, Anti septic cream, Antihistamine cream (for relief of insect bites), Anti diarrhea (flagyl or any other), Anti headache (Diamox, aspirin, paracitamol, zimalgin), Anti vomiting (avomin), For stomach-ache (baralgan,trigan or other diagnose) Dettol, wash proof Dettol plaster, Bandage and cotton, Balm, Anti cramp spray, Pills to purify the water, Scissor and knife are must in the medical kit.
According to your physical condition you are requested to consult your doctor to complete your medical kit.

Fitness and Acclimatization

Pre-travel conditioning is very desirable, as more you are prepared the more you enjoy the trips. For all the adventure trips at least light physical exercise is required however no exercise is obliged for cultural tours or jeep safari in hilly region. As we gain altitude slowly, so we get acclimatize naturally. And for the vast majority the slow ascent to height will produce minimum effects. The most important attribute for any adventure travel trip is positive attitude.
