South Zanskar to Lingthi valley

Your journey starts from Manali, a lush green valley located on the fort of the Himalayas. The trek begins in Lahaul valley by crossing the Shingola pass (5090 mtrs) which separate the Lahul from Zanskar valley, Explore the Budhiste culture of South Zanskar and its famouns Phuktal monastery suspended in a cliff as a eagle nest. Trek back till the village of Tanze and cross the phirtsela pass . (5300 mtrs) and then join a hidden valley of Lingthi, following a large plateau till joining the strategic road between Manali-Leh, and drive back to Manali over mighty Baralachala pass. (4800 mtrs).through Lahoul valley and over Rohtang pass.

Day 1: Arrival Delhi
Day 2: Delhi to Manali ( 2000 m.) 570 kms.16 hours, by night tourist bus.
Day 3: Morning arrive in Manali.
Day 4: Manali to Zanskar Sumdo (3950 m) 170 kms. 7hrs.
Day 5: Zanskar Sumdo – Chhumik Marpo (4500 m) Trek 1 , 5h30. Hours
Day 6: Chhumik to Lahkhang Marpo (4300 m) by the Shingo (5090 m)7-8 hours trek 2
Day 7: Lhakhang to Kargyak (4060 m) 5 hours trek 3
Day 8: Kargyak to Purne (3800 m) 6 hours trek 4

Day 17: Arrive Delhi: On the evening international flights.

Day 1: Arrival Delhi

Arrive in Delhi in evening, Reception in airport , transfer to the hotel, O/N in hotel.

Day 2: Delhi to Manali ( 2000 m.) 570 kms.16 hours, by night tourist bus.

Day to visit the Grand mosque, Red Fort from outside, while passing nearby, Raj Ghat, Grand Minaret and Lotus Temple if time permit, late afternoon transfer to the starting point of the bus. Night in the bus that crosses most fertile states (Punjab andHaryana ) of the whole subcontinent).

Day 3: Morning arrive in Manali.

Transfer to the hotel. Visit the temple of Manu in the old village of Manali and Hadimba Devi temple of pagoda structure in the middle of the cedars forest . After lunch drive to Vashisht to visit hot sulphur springs. Evening at leisure. Hotel

Day 4: Manali to Zanskar Sumdo (3950 m) 170 kms. 7hrs.

Start early in the morning, road leads over Rothang pass (3950 m). Enjoy spectacular views of the snow covered mountains of CB range. Further descend to the Lahoul valley passing tribal villages , Leave Manali —Leh road at Darcha and take diversion to left following opposite flow of Zanskar Chu, Leave behind the last villages of valley Chhika and Palamo and set campsite at Zanskar Sumdo , arrived Chhika or Palamo , meet the team of our pony who lead your caravan till the expected destination.

Day 5: Zanskar Sumdo – Chhumik Marpo (4500 m) Trek 1 , 5h30. Hours

Day start with a zigzag climb for 45 minutes , than gradual ascent leads by a narrow valley to the base of the Shingo la . Camp site is often cold but deep feeling to be in front of the glittering mountain. night in tents.

Day 6: Chhumik to Lahkhang Marpo (4300 m) by the Shingo (5090 m) 7-8 hours trek 2

This is a hard day for mules if there is snow and psychologically for trekkers because of walking over the glacier fields to reach at the top of Shingola 5090 mtrs .. This is why its recommended to start as earlier possible, especially during the month of July. Gradual ascent to the pass over snow, scree and ice, Admire the beauty of snow covered mountains . After a break on the pass take a gradual descent by rocky path to the camp site beside the Lhakhang chhu.

Day 7: Lhakhang to Kargyak (4060 m) 5 hours trek 3

Trail leads On the right bank of Kargyak Chhu on the foot of rocky tower of Gumburanjon peak , Here cross a small stream just before reaching the meadows where one can across the herds of yaks, sheep and goats. Marmots can be seen whistling and playing hide and seek around the meadow. Can also across the shepherd’s who are eager to meet the tourist. Afternoon arrival at Kargyak, the first village of Zanskar which house a small gompa ( monastery ) atop of the village, Evening stroll in the village to meet the locals and we can share the cup of tea and Chang. . night in tents.

Day 8: Kargyak to Purne (3800 m) 6 hours trek 4

Easy walk through the villages of Tanze, Kuru, Testa and Yal. From Yal trail goes high over the valley floor, take a short steep descend till bridge and further short walk to Purne located at the confluence of Tsarap and Kargyak Chhu. This is one of the best campsites in Zanskar, meet the people. night in tents.

Day 9: Purne – Phucktal, return to Purne (3800m) 4 hours (round trip) trek 5

Leave early morning, trail goes beside Tserap river to visit the Phuktal monastery suspended in a cliff over Tserap river. The monastery belongs to the Gelugpa sect of Budhist tradition (Yellow hat), which was founded in the 11th century. It has the collection of Dukhang tangkas and fresco . Water source flows into the cave is sacred. Meet monks and afternoon return to Purni, overnight in tents.

Day 10: Purni – Tanje (4000 m.) 4 hours. trek 6

Return by the same way to the village of Tanje. after noon stroll in the village to be interacted by local people to have the insight of their culture, night in tents.

Day 11: Tanje – Jhinchen, the Base of Phirtse (4700 m.) 6 hours, 7 trek

Follow the trail for while toward Karygyak, now leave the trail and bifurcates to the left through the gorge by a winding path until you reach on a green meadow. Enjoy the spectacular Panorama of the colored rocks , take a steady trail to the base camp. night in tents.

Day 12: Jhinchen, the base of Phirtse – Chhumik Marpo (4750 m) by the Phirtse pass (5450 m.) 7 -8 hours. trek 8

Long day begins with a steep climb on the moraine and beside the hanging glacier to reach the Phirtse la which offers a extensive panorama of the snowy peaks and colorful mountains around . After a while take a long descent to the camp site located on the meadow where the shepherds of Tanje and Kargyak lives with their herds of yaks, sheep and goats. night in camp.

Day 13: Chhumik Marpo – Khamirap – Lingthi (4200 m.) 6-7 hours. Trek 9

Easy walking begins on a rocky trail, through lush meadows down to the river bed of Lingthi, Cross it before the day temperature rises which can increase the river flow due to high melting rate of glacier. Now take scenic gradual path , several rivulet has to be crossed, during summer shepherd of ( Kangra ) Himachal pradesh are found here with their flocks. Campsite on the beautiful place on the confluence of Lingthi and Yemen river opposite of Sarchu plateau. night in tents.

Day 14: Lingthi – Sarai Keylong (4400 m.) 5.30 hours. trek 10

The trail goes upward the Yumen flows, follow the Lingthi plateau . One can observe the varieties of wildflowers. Cross a steam before campsite near the Manali-Leh high way at the foot of Baralachala. night in tents.

Day 15: Keylong serai to Manali over Rohtang la (3980 m)

Take scenic road of Leh —Manali over Baralacha;la la ( 4800 mtrs ) by accompany of hanging glaciers, Pristine mountain ranges , through several villages of Lahoul, Passport required for checking at Jispa and at Koksar. Snake curved road to the Rohtang pass (3950 m) providing a magnificent view of surrounding Himalayas. Long descend of 51 kms, traversing fields of wild flower and cascading waterfall accompany you till Manali (2000 m), O/N in hotel.

Day 16: Manali – Delhi by night bus – 570 km – 14 hours

Free time until 15:00. Evening comfortable air-conditioned night bus to Delhi, night in the bus.

Day 17 : Arrive Delhi: On the evening international flights.

Morning between 8 to 10am arrival at Delhi, transfer to the hotel (check in at 12 noon). Visit Lotus temple, India Gate, afternoon possibilities to visit local handicraft center. In the evening transfer to the airport for your international flight.

Some important notes:

Please take sneakers to cross the mountain river and walking stick.

A part of trek will leads in to the south of Zanskar valley and the second part is completely alpine with pasture land where one can spot the shepherds (in summer) with their herds.

During the trek the highest altitude is .5450m. Whereas while transfer from end of the trek you will cross 4800m high pass.

The walking hours are varies from one person to other sub their physic and sub to climatic conditions.
