The Land of Monasteries and high mountains Ladakh, littreally mean the ("land of high passes") Located between the
Karakoram in the north and the main Great Himalayas to the south, inhabited by the people of Indo-Aryan and Tibetan descent .,the Indus river enter in
Ladakh from east in the region of Changthang where nomads ( locally called Changpa )lives with their flocks of Yaks, sheep and goats , Rupshu valley lies
to the south east linked with Markha valley , to the south is the Zanskar valley , and Nubra valleys to the north over Khardung La is on the trail of
ancient silk route,where as valley of sham is located in the heart of Ladakh. Contemporary Ladakh borders Tibet to the east, is renowned for its remote
mountain beauty and its authntique culture. It is sometimes called "Little Tibet" due to its strong influence of Tibetan culture in the past and at present
as well. The biggest town “ the capital of Ladakh” is Leh . A majority of Ladakhis are Tibetan Buddhists and the rest are mostly Shia Muslims. Ladakh
offers many oppertunites for the travelers. Its rich Buddhist culture , the sky touching snowcapped mountains, the thousand years old buddhist monasteries
where monk performs “Chhams” a highly choreographed sacred dance-drama are the major attraction of the land.
