Bali Pass Trek

Bali pass is named after Bali, the king of monkeys from Ramayan mythology. Though it is not a very popular trek, it does offer amazing environs. It is considered a difficult trek in terms of trekking terminology but it offers spectacular views of Swargarohini and Banderpooch peaks. In addition to that, it warrants a view of the magnificent Ruinsara Lake. Starting in the Har Ki Doon Valley of Uttarakhand and ending in the lower Dhammi region, it takes you through Yamunotri of the Chaar Dhaam fame. You pass through quaint ancient villages like Osla stopped in time. These villages are known for their ancient charm and exquisite wooden houses and transport you to a period back in time.

Day 1: Dehradun(1,467 Ft) To Sankri (6400 Ft)

Sankri is situated inside the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary surrounded by Swargarohini and other Greater Himalayan peaks. You will pass through amazing places like Mussorie, Nainbagh, Kempty waterfalls etc. Stay in shared accommodation on arrival prepping for the next day’s trip.

Day 2 : Sankri To Seema (8,500 Ft) Via Taluka

Start your day with scrumptious breakfast before leaving for a drive to Taluka village. The 12 km hairpin bend drive takes you through many streams and forests. Walk along the Supin river on arrival in Taluka on a stone paved pathway. The trail leads to a open space and after 2 hours you reach Ghaghad village which is popular for its wooden houses. The locals busy in their day to day activities greet you with smiling faces. There is also a eatery and a antique water mill some kilometres from the village. Crossing a wooden bridge, you reach the beautiful village of Osla. Keep an eye out for Himalayan Monal, an exotic bird of the hills. Trekking around an hour from Osla, you reach the campsite of Seema village. Retire in your tented accommodation for the night.

Day 3: Seema To Rainbasera (10,200 Ft)

Freshen up in the morning to start your trek to Debshu Bugyal. Walking alongside the Supin river, the trail keeps getting steeper. You encounter large boulders on the way as you reach Ruinsara valley. Debshu Bugyal is a huge grazing ground with views of Kala Nag and Black peak summits. The trail from Debshu Bugyal descends suddenly to reach the river bed again. The boulders and steep during summit and hence good care must be taken. Cross a wooden bridge on reaching the river and then ascend again to reach the campsite for the day, Rainbasera. You get to camp beside the raging river and while appreciating the beauty of your surroundings.

Day 4 : Rainbasera To Ruinsara Tal (11,800 Ft)

Today’s camp location, the Ruinsara Lake is a dream location. Situated between the Supin river and Ruinsara Tal, the meadows of Ruinsara are surrounded by peaks of Banderppoch, Kala Nag, White Peak and Dhumdhar Khai. The Yamunotri temple is also located here which you can explore after reaching. The trail from Rainbasera is somewhat similar to previous day’s path with lots of ascents and descents. You will cross streams and witness glaciers and snow-capped peaks at a distance.

Day 5 : Ruinsara Tal To Odari (13,100 Ft)

The trail today is relatively shorter of just 4 kms. Descending down the Supin river, you enter a forest after crossing a river. Emerging from the forest, you enter a meadow with very little vegetation. The name Odari comes from the rock cave situated here. Swargarohini peaks are visible from here as you camp here for the night

Day 6 : Odari To Bali Col Camp (15,100 Ft)

The climb on Day 6 is very steep filled with rocks and loose stones. The ridge is inclined at a 60 degrees angle and extra precaution must be taken while climbing it. Since you gain good height suddenly, proper precautions must also be taken to avoid AMS. The temperature at night drops below zero degrees and it gets really cold. Proper sleeping arrangements should be made to sleep well through the night.

Day 7 : Bali Col Camp To Bali Pass (16,200 Ft)

This is the final day when you cross your destination, the Bali pass. The trail is very steep and covered with snow. The path broken by the guides must be followed and you should not stray away in the snow. Prefer shoes with microspikes for a better grip in the snow. You will reach the pass after 3 hours of climbing in the snow. The pass is very narrow at 10 feet wide and 30 feet long. You get the feeling of being on a mountain top from where you can see everything. You can get unrestricted views of Swargarohini, Banderpooch and Garhwal peaks from the top. Though you might assume that you have completed your trek, the most thrilling part is yet to happen. The descend down is an almost 90 degree slope. It can be very strenuous on your legs and be sure to follow your guides’ footsteps. This continues till Upper Dhammi. From Upper dhammi the path is pretty flat and easily accessible till lower Dhammi. Pitch your tents for the night amid the abundant forests.

Day 8 : Dhammi To Dehradun Via Jaan Ki Chatti

Last day of the trek when you descend down to Jaan ki Chatti via a cemented pathway. You slowly start entering into civilisation after lots of descents. Rest at the campsite for sometime and then leave for Dehradun as soon as possible to move forward on your onward journey. The package ends here.
