Trek from Rumtse to Tsomoriri High altitude lakes and nomads of Chang-Thang

Chang-Thang literally means the high-altitude plateau located at the south east of Ladakh on Indo -Tibet border. The plateau is home of the Nomade (Changpas ) who lives there with their herds , The trek starts form Rumtse toTukche near Tsokar lake, A lake with  its huge salt water deposit , Further trek toward Karzok   the capital of Rupshu located on the bank of  Tsomoririr lake with its turquois color.

 
During the trek we will cross several passes, icy chilled rivulets, can have chance spot the wildlife as Kyang, the Tibetan wild Ass and Marmots. Rare and exotic birds as Bar headed Goose, and black necked crane are also found in these lakes. We shall may have the occasion to be interact the Nomads who are hospitable and honest peoples.


Day 1: Leh (3500 m), 1h 30min by flight 

Day 2:  Leh to Rumtse    4040 mtrs. 75 kms.    

Day 3: Rumtse to Kyamar , 40 50 mtrs . 5 hours Trek 1 

Day 4: Kyamar to Tisaling 4200m, over Kumarla and Mandachandla -6- 7 hours, Trek 2

Day 5: Tisaling    to Tukje (4267 mtrs) vis Shibuk over Shibukla  (4980 mtrs ) 6- 7 hours . Trek 3,

Day 6: Tsokar to Nuruchan (4300 mtrs.) 4 hours. Trek 4

Day 7: Nuruchan to Rachungkaru  (4400mtrs. ) over Horlamkongkala ( 4900 mtrs.)  6 hours. Trek 5

Day 8: Rachungkaru to Gyama burma (4250 mtrs) over Kyamayurila ( 5200mtrs.)  5 hours. Trek 6

Day 9: Gyma Burma to Karzok (Tsomoriri 4573 mtrs 7 hours. Over    

Yalungnyaula (5440 mtrs) Trek 7

Day 10: Karzok  to Leh drop (3500m.)


Day 1: Leh (3500 m), 1h 30min by flight
Take your flight to Leh, on board enjoy the view of majestic Himalayas. You will be landing at 3500m from the sea level. On arrival at Leh airport you will take the taxi to the designated hotel.  You will relax till the mid-day. Meeting with our representative and guide on lunch time. After lunch to get acclimatize leave for excursion to Shanti Stupa dominate the Leh town, Royal Palace built by 5th Dalailama in 17th century which looks like a little Potala of Lahasa. Stroll in the Bazar and night in the hotel.

 


Day 2:  Leh to Rumtse    4040 mtrs. 75 kms.   
Leave early, On the way visit known monasteries of Indus Shey-Thiksey –Hemis monasteries.

Shey, once the capital of Upper Ladakh before being supplanted by Leh, monastery houses rich murals painting, well restored and represents the 18 Arhats (disciples of Buddha who attained enlightenment).

Thiksey, a majestic monastery perched on a rocky outcrop built in the 15th century during the first wave of expansion of Gelugpa sect in Ladakh. At the entrance, there are painting of protective deities and the great masters of the sect .  Hemis monastery, built by Namgyal dynasty in1630. The monastery belongs to Drukpa sect of Buddhism, its mural painting represents the different divinities dated back to 18th sanctuary.

 Further drive to Rumtse the starting point of trek where you. will be meet the trekking crew who will accompany you throughout the trek, night in camp.

  
Day 3: Rumtse to Kyamar , 40 50 mtrs . 5 hours Trek 1
 Day start walking along the road side for a while, later follow the river and has to cross later, the valley you are walking in get wider at the places and narrowing at certain places, finally at the point it turns to the north toward nomad settlement where camp site will be established, night in the camp

 

Day 4: Kyamar to Tisaling 4200m, over Kumarla and Mandachandla -6- 7 hours, Trek 2
As it is a long day so the early start is advised, Trail goes up following the River, gradual ascent to Kumur la 4900m, enjoy the spectacular view on the Chang-Thang range, then steady descend to river bank, wade through river and again, ascent to the next pass Mandachandla, now easy descend   toward the campsite on pasture land of Tisaling.

 

Day 5: Tisaling    to Tukje (4267 mtrs) vis Shibuk over Shibukla  (4980 mtrs ) 6- 7 hours . Trek 3,
2 hours trek till the pass, again spectacular view of the surrounding Himalaya, descend to Shibuk, where Marmot can be seen playing hide an seek. Now easy flate track on the large valle to the nomade headquarter at Tukche, on arrival in Tukche, establish the camp, later visit the village and small gompa perched high on the top of village, Stroll on the shore of lake to watch the birds and lake changing its color frequently while sun setting. Night in camp.

 

Day 6: Tsokar to Nuruchan (4300 mtrs.) 4 hours. Trek 4
Trail goes beside the lake,we cannot  stop gazing the astonishing reflection of the arid mountains on lake and its banks are adorned by the crest of white salt ,  just are breath-taking.  Time to time nomad setting are seen while traversing plateau. Wild life as of solitaire kyang (Wild Donkey) or in herd can be seen.
Day end up at the southern direction of the lake, night in camp. 

 
Day 7: Nuruchan to Rachungkaru  (4400mtrs. ) over Horlamkongkala ( 4900 mtrs.)  6 hours. Trek 5
Gradual walk for1h.30 to the pass, enjoy the view of surrounding hills and mountains of Chang-Thangs, take easy descend followed by a long walk to the beautiful campsite locate near the stream. Night kin camp.

 

Day 8: Rachungkaru to Gyama burma (4250 mtrs) over Kyamayurila ( 5200mtrs.)  5 hours. Trek 6
As it’s not a long day, Morning at ease, followed by easy climb of 2 h. toward the  pass, breath for a while to admire the surrounding, later descend gradually and follow the easy trail  that leads  to  the campsite. night in camp.

 
Day 9: Gyma Burma to Karzok (Tsomoriri 4573 mtrs 7 hours. Over Yalungnyaula (5440 mtrs) Trek 7
Day is going be long, hence advised to start bit early than previous day, once at the top of the pass, you will enjoy the excellent view of turquoise colour lake Tsomoriri and surrounding Himalaya peaks close to the Indo-Tibetan frontiers. Long descend till Karzok village the headquarter of nomad, visit Karzok Gompa and nomadic village which are most outstanding features of this lake. its circumference is around 36 kms, if time allows stroll on the shore to get the opportunity to observe the different species of birds and to experience the reflection of the colorful mountains while sun set (in clear day). night in camp.

 

Day 10: Karzok  to Leh (3500m.).
After breakfast, drive to Leh. Vehicle will pick you up, you will drive traversing nomadic land of Chang-thang, Enroute take glimpse of an authentic Tibetan village of Sumdo, after short drive through beautiful gorge join the Indus valley at Mahe where meet the main road that leads east toward the Tibet border. Following the Indus river afternoon reached Leh, drop at your hotel.  End of service

    By air: There are daily flight to Leh from Delhi, on arrival our representative will pick you up and will drop at respected hotel. 

    Briefing of trip will start after lunch on day of arrival, every participant is requested to be on time.  Those missing the briefing will be not repeated for those late arrival.  Afternoon you will take acclimatization walk to Shanti Stupa and Leh palace. 

    Those who could not reach till evening on reporting day will be considered no show. No show of participant will enforce Himalayan Frontiers to either postponed the trip (if seat and trip available) or cancel their booking. Those who considered non- shown please consult the terms and condition policies applied by company.

    To book the trek / tour complete and sign the booking form and post or mail to the company with your deposit of 30% of the total amount by bank transfer or by payment Online through the site: www.himalayanfrontiers.com. Acceptance of the clients booking will be confirmed in written. The balance is to be paid 30 days before the scheduled departure.

    All the cancellation must be in written and signed by the person who signed the booking form and will be effective from the date of the reception by the company.

     

    30 days or more before departure: The agency will refund the entire paid amount to his client deducting the registration fee (INR 3000rs per persons or equivalent in other currency), GST paid at the time of booking and bank charges subject to the bank policies.

     

    29 to15 Days before departure: The agency will refund the 50% of paid amount to his client deducting the registration fee (INR 3000rs per persons or equivalent in other currency), GST paid at the time of booking and bank charges subject to the bank policies.

     

    Less than 14 days before departure: The agency will be obliged to withhold the full amount of the deposit paid by the customer. In this case, the customer must inform their insurance as soon as possible and provide as much documentation to support the cancellation of trip. It is therefore strongly advised to take out cancellation insurance to cover such expenses.

    Those who cancel their trip, following the terms and conditions norms as per the time period we will refund the advance or full payment made to book the trip by deducting the applicable taxes as of GST, bank charges, file charges and other applicable taxes and charges. For foreign client’s differences of currency buying has to be borne as per the present exchange rates.

     

    For foreign nation participants additional charges will be add on to buy the foreign currency, (hence buying the currency charges has to be borne by clients) bank transfer (wire transfer) charges and other administrative paperwork to be completed which is quite long exhausted process, we request you to understand and co-operate with. We will do our best possible to deal such cases respecting the present circumstances.

    The Company cannot be made liable for the consequences of weather condition, cancellations of flight / train or bus, war or threat of civil war, strikes, industrial action, political unrest or any other force majeure, unusual or unforeseen circumstance. The company reserves the right to use alternate transport, or vary the itinerary if breakdown, sickness or any other force major. Any additional that result, such as extra hotel accommodation, flight or road transport will be on your charge and must be paid directly at the spot. 

    Please understand, there are certain hazards involved in your adventurous holidays which you must accept at your own risk. The company will not be liable for any illness major or minor injury, death sustained during neither the trip, nor it will be liable for any uninsured losses of your property and other losses during the trip.

    It is strongly advised that clients take out insurance to cover the unexpected and cancellation charges.

    This is mandatory for all clients travelling on any tour/ trek / expedition or independent itinerary arranged by us. You are responsible for obtaining adequate insurance covering expenses of unexpected / unforeseen circumstances as mentioned in liability paragraph, such loss or damage of baggage, medical expenses, war or threat of civil war, strikes, industrial action, political unrest or any other force majeure, unusual or unforeseen circumstance, helicopter (air or ground) rescue, injury, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment of the itinerary.

    Hence foreign nation requires special permit to entre in the region called inner line permit issued by competent authority from Leh.
