From Spituk to Hemis

Trekking in Markha Valley has become very popular for good reason: The landscapes are varied; the trail passes through villages and isolated oasis dominated by the snowy peaks of Yatse Kang (6400 m) and Stok Kangri (6121m). While trekking in Markha valley, you will enjoy spectacular views of Ladakh and Zanskar ranges. Its multicolour hue and the hidden civilization maintain the rich culture of the Ladakh. In spite of arid landscapes, we come across the willow groves, bushes of wild roses and green meadows. Shepherd with their flocks can be seen in the plateau. There are chances to encounter the wild lives such as blue sheep and Ibex. After crossing the highest pass of the trek (5150 m)  en route you will visit some of famous monasteries ( Hemis- Thiksey and shey ) lied along Indus Valley.


Day 1: Leh (3500 m), 1h 30min by flight 

Day 2: Leh- Jhinchen to Rumbak. 4400m.4-5 h. Trek 1

Day 3: Rumbak – Ganda La base (4500m), 5 hours trek; Trek 2

Day 4: Yurutse – Skiu (3400 m) by Ganda-la (4800 m), 6 hours trek; Trek 3

Day 5: Skiu – Markha (3710 m), 7 hours trek; Trek 4

Day 6: Markha – Tchatchutse (3750 m), 6 hours trek; Trek 5

Day 7: Tchatchutse – Nimaling (4700 m), 5 hours trek; Trek 6

Day 8: Nimaling – Shang, by Konmarula (5150 m), 8 hours trek; Trek 7

Day 9: Shang — Hemis – Leh drop, 60 km


Day 1: Leh (3500 m), 1h 30min by flight
Take your flight to Leh, on board enjoy the view of majestic Himalayas. You will be landing at 3500m from the sea level. On arrival at Leh airport you will take the taxi to the designated hotel.  You will relax till the mid-day. Meeting with our representative and guide on lunch time. After lunch to get acclimatize leave for excursion to Shanti Stupa dominate the Leh town, Royal Palace built by 5th Dalailama in 17th century which looks like a little Potala of Lahasa. Stroll in the Bazar and night in the hotel.


Day 2:
Leh- Jhinchen to Rumbak. 4400m.4-5 h. Trek 1
Drive early morning following the bank of Indus river toward the west, we will cross a large tray on the shadow of Stok Mountain range, then enter the gorge which is a part of the Hemis National Park. Once at Jhinchen , where you will meet the team of the trek. We will complete the load distribution and the first day of hiking begins here. Reach Rumbak village located at the foot of Stok la. Authentic village is home to winter snow Leopard sighting destination, stroll in village is the best opportunity to get the insight of the local culture, their life style, Night in camp.


Day 3: Rumbak – Ganda La base (4500m), 5 hours trek; Trek 2
Follow the gorge and cross the river many times through the multi-coloured rocks and willow trees. Continue to Yurtse and visit a family to know their life style (according to availability), after meeting the family, move upwards to the foot path of progressive cervical Gandala camp.


Day 4: Yurutse – Skiu (3400 m) by Ganda-la (4800 m), 6 hours trek; Trek 3
We see beautiful scenery of Yurutse along the mountain. Crossing a small valley is followed by a zigzag climb to the plateau. We continue for nearly three hours down the mountain till the pass, Ganda La. A long descent to Shingo easily leads us in a splendid fashion. After descending for about two hours, we arrive in the Markha valley where we use the beautiful land of Skiu for camping.


Day 5: Skiu – Markha (3710 m), 7 hours trek; Trek 4
The day starts on the right bank of Markha: nice trail with lots of vegetation. Several successive crossings from left bank to right bank happen in Chaluk (little houses); new traverses that flow before it, reaches after a short steep climb the beautiful village of Markha. We set up camp near the river.


Day 6: Markha – Tchatchutse (3750 m), 6 hours trek; Trek 5
The trek goes on the right bank of the main valley; the trail may be difficult by the riverbed. Before reaching the village of Hankar, we visit the monastery of Humlung, along the river. A little beyond Hankar, we turn from a wide valley on our right. We take a narrow valley that requires us to cross a bridge until the left bank to reach the pasture Tchatchutse.


Day 7: Tchatchutse – Nimaling (4700 m), 5 hours trek; Trek 6
The trail climbs gradually; the river is rather far to the left (parade). We continue near a small lake, then cross the pastures Nimaling. This is one of the most beautiful high valleys in Ladakh dominated by Yatse Kang (6400 m). Many roads leading to the summit are rather difficult.


Day 8: Nimaling – Shang, by Konmarula (5150 m), 8 hours trek; Trek 7
A zigzag ascends of about two hours to the pass Konmaru, which offers panoramic views of the valley on the remote Zanskar range. Then we continue with a steep descent in a zigzag across the Konmaru. The trail crosses the beautiful bed of the river and continues with a descent difficult for the horses. After several river crossings, arrive at Shang; beautiful camp in groves. You can visit a small gompa outside the village.


Day 9: Shang — Hemis – Leh drop, 60 km
Following the river again, you win a trek after a series of Chortens. Let Martselang right and follow the trail to Hemis. Visit the monasteries: Hemis, Thiksey and Shey; transfer to the Leh. End of service.

    By air: There are daily flight to Leh from Delhi, on arrival our representative will pick you up and will drop at respected hotel.

    Briefing of the trip: Briefing of trip will start after lunch on day of arrival, every participant is requested to be on time.  Those missing the briefing will be not repeated for those late arrival.  Afternoon you will take acclimatization walk to Shanti Stupa and Leh palace. 

    Those who could not reach till evening on reporting day will be considered no show. No show of participant will enforce Himalayan Frontiers to either postponed the trip (if seat and trip available) or cancel their booking. Those who considered non- shown please consult the terms and condition policies applied by company.

    To book the  trek / tour complete and sign the booking form and post or mail to the company with your deposit of 30% of the total amount by bank transfer or by payment Online through the site: www.himalayanfrontiers.com. Acceptance of the clients booking will be confirmed in written. The balance is to be paid 30 days before the scheduled departure.

    All the cancellation must be in written and signed by the person who signed the booking form and will be effective from the date of the reception by the company.

     

    30 days or more before departure: The agency will refund the entire paid amount to his client deducting the registration fee (INR 3000rs per persons or equivalent in other currency), GST paid at the time of booking and bank charges subject to the bank policies.

     

    29 to15 Days before departure: The agency will refund the 50% of paid amount to his client deducting the registration fee (INR 3000rs per persons or equivalent in other currency), GST paid at the time of booking and bank charges subject to the bank policies.

     

    Less than 14 days before departure: The agency will be obliged to withhold the full amount of the deposit paid by the customer. In this case, the customer must inform their insurance as soon as possible and provide as much documentation to support the cancellation of trip. It is therefore strongly advised to take out cancellation insurance to cover such expenses.

    Those who cancel their trip, following the terms and conditions norms as per the time period we will refund the advance or full payment made to book the trip by deducting the applicable taxes as of GST, bank charges, file charges and other applicable taxes and charges. For foreign client’s differences of currency buying has to be borne as per the present exchange rates.

     

    For foreign nation participants additional charges will be add on to buy the foreign currency, (hence buying the currency charges has to be borne by clients) bank transfer (wire transfer) charges and other administrative paperwork to be completed which is quite long exhausted process, we request you to understand and co-operate with. We will do our best possible to deal such cases respecting the present circumstances.

    The Company cannot be made liable for the consequences of weather condition, cancellations of flight / train or bus, war or threat of civil war, strikes, industrial action, political unrest or any other force majeure, unusual or unforeseen circumstance. The company reserves the right to use alternate transport, or vary the itinerary if breakdown, sickness or any other force major. Any additional that result, such as extra hotel accommodation, flight or road transport will be on your charge and must be paid directly at the spot. 

    Please understand, there are certain hazards involved in your adventurous holidays which you must accept at your own risk. The company will not be liable for any illness major or minor injury, death sustained during neither the trip, nor it will be liable for any uninsured losses of your property and other losses during the trip.


    It is strongly advised that clients take out insurance to cover the unexpected and cancellation charges.

    This is mandatory for all clients travelling on any tour/ trek / expedition or independent itinerary arranged by us. You are responsible for obtaining adequate insurance covering expenses of unexpected / unforeseen circumstances as mentioned in liability paragraph, such loss or damage of baggage, medical expenses, war or threat of civil war, strikes, industrial action, political unrest or any other force majeure, unusual or unforeseen circumstance, helicopter (air or ground) rescue, injury, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment of the itinerary.
