Description

Royal Enfield Motorcycle Safari in Himachal Pradesh, On the Indo-Tibetan border.

This peaceful state is located on the lap of the Himalayas where the Gods live. Each village has its own deity. The magical nature of each village is a paradise for visitors.


Your motorcycle expedition starts from Manali (Kullu), in a lush green valley. You will take a narrow and winding but charming road that passes through remote villages, rocky and sandy terrain. You will then arrive at the semi-desert of Kinnaur and Spiti an arid region located on the Indo-Tibetan border. Further on a mountainous road will take you through the Chandra valley into the tribal region of Lahoul dominated by mountains covered with snow. Back to Manali.


During this trip you will visit ancient Hindu temples where often you can see locals paying homage to their deities and monasteries where the monk recites a mantra and studies sacred books. In addition to the natural beauty of this region, you will be amazed by the hospitality of the peoples of the Himalayas. Discovering this rich culture and these diverse landscapes will remain in your memory as the highlight of this trip.

Itinerary

Arrival in Delhi by evening. Reception in airport, transfer to the hotel, O/N in hotel.

Kalka Shatabdi -12011 -Dep. Delhi 7.40 Arri.Chandigarh-11.05 am Morning transfer to railway station, train to Chandigarh, a modern city in India, which is designed by Le Corbusier (A Swiss-French Architecture). Visit the extraordinary Rock Garden. Post lunch drive to Manali passing by the plain of Punjab and Haryana, where grows varieties of crops round the years. Remaing journey will be passing by several villages and tinny hamlets across the Himalayan foothills is scenic and adorned by terraced field. Evening reached Manali. Manali Located in Kullu valley is famous for apple orchards, pine trees and cheerful people. The valley has hundreds of temples and deities. The Aryans named this valley as Kulantpitha, meaning “the end of the habitable world. Night in hotel.

Morning after a short introduction on safety measures on the road, you will familiarize yourself by riding your motorcycle thanks to a short trip through the mountain villages, which will allow you to take the pulse of Indian roads. By the evening return back to the hotel, dinner, rest and relaxation. Night at the hotel

We will ride toward south on a scenic road through Kullu Valley. After 70 km, we take the deviation by the narrow Seraj valley spoted by villages on both sides. We will then pass by the Larji River known for trout fishing, across the major town of Banjar. Reach Gyaghi a remote town located on foot of Jalori pass, night in a Guest house/ Hotel.

Shady scenic trail goes up to the Jalori pass (3200 mtrs). From pass descend to join the valley of outer Seraj. Road goes amid the rural villages to join the main road from Simla which leads toward Kinnaur –Spiti. Follow the main road to Sarahan the summer capital of the Rampur Busheher. Visit 1500 years old temple of goddess Bhimakali which is an immense architectural wonder within itself. In clear day enjoy the magnificent view of Shir Khand peak. Night in hotel.

After few kms you will entre to the Kinnaur. Your motorbike safari now enter to one of the most beautiful valley called Baspa valley dominated by the Kamru fort. Visit the villages of Chitkul and Rackchham with typical Kinnauri architecture. Night at the hotel.

Morning Visit of the Kamru fort and the village, then we leave the Baspa valley and ride toward the capital town of Recongpeo (2290m). (Here special permit will be issue by authority to cross the border area) After administrative formalities ride to the direction of Kalpa where the view is breathtaking on the Kinner Kailash, sacred mountain sheltering according to beliefs Shiva's abode. Visit of monasteries, the temple built in typical local style and the village. In the evening stroll in the village. Night at the hotel.

Discovery of the villages of the region located on the mythical old Hindustan –Tibet road. Visit Kothi village and its temple dedicated to the goddess Devi Chandika, and the Roghi (2700m) in the middle of apple trees. Stroll through the village of Chini, where Hindu and Buddhist cultures mingle harmoniously, visit the small monastery of Hu-Bu-Lan-Ka. In the evening stroll in the village. Night in hotel.

As entering in restricted area there for inner line permit and passport will be checked at check post at Jhangi. A gorgeous route leads via Khab where Sutlej river entre in India and merge in to Spiti river. Ride uphill and on cliffy road high over Spiti River till Nako. It is a most charming village offers a magnificent view of surrounding. To the north of the village is the monastic complex belonging to the Drugpa order. Cross a cliffy road, riding through several villages till Tabo. Tabo Monastery has been founded in 996 A.D. often called the Ajanta of Himalayas. In trans Himalayas Buddhism, Tabo sanctity is next only to Tibet’s Tholing gompa.explor5e the village by foot , evening join the ceremony (Puja) in monastery complex , night in hotel.

Road to Dhankar, an ancient capital of the Kingdom of Spiti, is home to the most incredible gompa located on a sheer cliff. Lalung: although very ordinary from the outside, it is the second most interesting monastery in Spiti. In the afternoon, we proceed to the Pin valley, it is famous for its national park (snow leopard, ibex and the formations of the rocks that witness the cycles of erosion).The Kungri gompa is the main canter of the Nyingmapa sect of Spiti. Later ride to Kaza. By the evening stroll in the small hamlet of Kaza. Night in hotel.

Ride to the upper and rural region to appreciate the splendid view of the landscape, the snow-caped peaks and the isolated villages in middle of the oasis. You will visit the village where locate the highest post office and the highest monastery of the region (and are said to be highest of the world). You may will have the opportunity to visit the families to meet the local habitants to observe their way of life. A short walk in search of fossils, like the other time a billion years ago, the region was the part of the Tethys Sea (Tethys Sea). Late afternoon visit Kye Monastery of Gelugpa order. Perched on a pyramidal rocky tower. The wall painting, frescoes are very well preserved as well as certain Tangkas depicting the life of the founder of the sect Guru Padmasambhava, It project the beautiful view over the valley. Back to Kaza. By evening stroll in the small hamlet. Night in hotel.

Uphill ride to the village of Kibber, a scenic village reputed to be the highest village in the world. Crosses several villages of Spiti till the last of Lossar. You will appreciate a breath-taking view of the river bed and arid landscape. Uphill ride of some of 11kms leads us to the Kunzum pass (4550m.). From the pass you can admire the view of the Chandra-Bhaga (C.B.) or Barashigri massifs and the peaks over 6000m. . While drivers pay homage to the goddess Kunzum Devi of region. Then following the Chandra valley. Then ride of 60 kms amid the alpine zone, gravel and dusty road and crossing the chilled stream is really more than fun. After this unforgettable part of the road you will enjoy a tarmac road in the amid the Chandra valley. You will take the tunnel from semi desert side and will exit toward the verdant valley of Kullu Manali, your last part of ride will go through forests of pines, birches, and poplars. Night in hotel.

2 , While riding  everyone  should  be in view of  each other , starting early will avoid the    traffic  and you will have good  light  for  Photograph .

4 , There will be common medical kit including oxygen cylinder  , apart from that one have  to carry their own medical  as  per their health  requirement . 

5, Heart Patients are not allowed to participate in such an adventurous trip.

6 , In case  of road  block  there  can be  change in itinerary ,  we need you to understand the   situation   however our team at present  will find  a solution  which will be  the  best  for  each medical evacuation , loss  of  baggage etc. 


Kinnaur-Spiti lie on Indo- (Tibet) China border. To access this part of Himalayan world we required to obtain special permit called (ILP) Inner line permit. Hence you are requested to send the scanned copies of passport, visa and 4 passport size photos 15 days prior to your arrival which enable us to issue the permit in advance or at least prepare your file to summit the documents in advance to the concern authority.  


Exchange rate is vary from time to time, you need to verify the latest.

Facilities to get cash exchange is available on arrival at airport in Delhi, Simla, Kalpa, Kaza and Manali, in some hotels by private money exchanger and in bank. You can withdraw from the ATM as well. There are certain shop where you can pay by credit card those wish to buy the souvenir.


Itinerary / hotels are sub. to change in case of strike, civil war threatens, you may be will lose expected places you have prepared for but will explore unexpected and for sure will not disappointed.

In case of Vehicle break down another mode of transport will be managed at the earliest possible, in that case you are requested to keep patience and co-operate with the situation, while travelling to rural and isolated area replacing vehicle can take time due to lack of communication or distance to pass the message with the other vehicle those who are driving toward the nearest town or the place from where one can have telephone facilities. Or from where one can be connected by Mobile phone. Also, you can be transferred by the other type of vehicle whatever is available at the moment as of local bus/ truck, marionette etc. till you will be not having the proper mode of transport.


The Company cannot be made liable for the consequences of weather condition, flight cancellations, war or threat of civil war, strikes, industrial action, political unrest or any other force majeure, unusual or unforeseen circumstance. The company reserves the right to use alternate transport, or vary the itinerary if breakdown, sickness or any other force major. Accommodation is based on 3-star categories in cities. Neat and clean local standards hotels or it is possible that due to lack of accommodation you may accommodated in neat and clean guest houses , ( in exception home stay) where choices are limited in rural area. 

When staying in guest house or home stay, one rooms may be shared by triple or quadruple or more depend on room size. Due to rural existence hygiene may be limited even in hotels, so need to adopt the exception. One may carry their own sleeping bag or inner of sleeping bag (fitted sheet)

Meals in rural areas are simple and often varied Veg and non-veg.—sometimes featuring local cuisine, which can be spicy. In the cities, the culinary options are diverse ranging from Indian, Tibetan, and Chinese dishes to continental. Indian dishes tend to be somewhat spicy; however, your guide will do their utmost to communicate your preferences to the restaurant staff.

Where meals are not included, you will have a wide varieties of dishes and to choose from. Our guide will help you to select the restaurant that will suits to your budget and tastes. On average, a meal will cost you between $8 and $12 USD (or Euros) in a mid-range restaurant. We advise to avoid the fried street food, even if it looks appetizing.


Bottle water is not included in the price; mineral water is available everywhere throughout the trip. The guide will take care of purchasing it for you during the journey. Please note that you will be not allowed to use your water bottled bought from outside of hotel premises, you will be advised to consume from hotel itself. 


Depending on the group size, the major transfers at the start and end of the trip will be arranged by using the vehicle like cars, Toyota Innovas, or minibuses. Back up vehicles during the motorcycle tour will consist of Jeeps, camper vans, or minibuses. These vehicles are comfortable and perform well on mountain roads. Our drivers are experienced who will take good care of you and everything


Road from Simla to Kinnaur, Spiti, Lahoul and further Kullu-Manali and back to Chandigarh. It is at the places wide and narrow at certain places, At the places road is gravelled and mostly tarred

Part of the journey in begging and at the end take place in lower altitude, rest take place at high altitude desert area of Kinnaur and Spiti.   Part of Simla , Kinnaur Kullu-Manali and further on except Spiti receive the rain in monsoon  during months of  between July till Sep. Spiti in exceptional case when unusual rain may knock the door and high melting rates of glacier which can overflow the local rivulets and can cause the damage of road. You can be blocked for hours, you may miss the places expected to visit or will visit the unexpected places, to regulate the situation the team at the spot will do the best possible at the moment. Road in India are being widen at so many states, So please don’t compare the driving time as estimated in developed nation.  


Is  that you will be riding in the mountainous regions, most of the mountain streams are glacier linked, due to the high melting rate of glacier can raise the water level and even in sunny day road can be damaged or bridge can be washed away.  Occasional rain can be the cause of damaging the road or destabilize the scheduled itinerary.


Due to wide range of temperature and climate conditions, it is advisable to bring appropriate clothing. For protection against cold a layered clothing is better than a few thick ones, so choose your cloths accordingly. Cloths should be preferable be made from natural materials which allow the body to breath better. You will be offending people if you walk around in skimpy or tight fitting clothes. Although there are normally opportunities to wear shorts, it is strictly forbidden to be with short in any religious places as monasteries and temples. We would advise women to wear shirts or loose trousers, men should not wear singlet. Make sure that your clothing should be packed in poly bag inside the backpack / duffle bag etc.


10: What you should pack for “Kinnaur –Spit tour”.

While travelling during summer  and autumns season, at higher altitude morning and evening are fresh ( even cold while bad weather  and in Autumn ) hence required a pair of Pull over, Raincoat, a polar jacket or waterproof jacket,( Type of Gore tax)  light and heavy clothing for lower and high altitude area, Sun hat, short and long sleeves T-Shirts, Loose trousers, (wearing short is not allowed at holy spot ) a pair of good shoes, sandal, walking stick to use while visiting monasteries or villages, few pairs of socks, Sunglasses / Spare glasses or contact lenses, , toilet kit, A small sewing kit, Safety pins, torch or flash light with spare batteries, Camera with spare cards and batteries, battery Charger and battery backup, day sac, water bottle, personal medical kit as per your medical advisor. Anti-mosquitos spray for cities). fanny pack to keep safely your important doc as passport, insurance paper, credit cards, money, Multifunctional knife, lighters, Dry fruits and walking stick if one wish to carry. Wooden pencils and pen, English –Hindi dictionary to learn the important words to greet and to communicate with locals and a note book can be useful to 10: engrave your memory in it. 

Suggestions: Personal motorcycle equipment including knee pad, jackets-pants, motorcycle shoes that can protect from mud, snow and from water, gloves, helmet, Goggles that protect well from dust, sun burns and occasional snowfall.

Please note, the Drone is not officially authorized to use at every places, please inform your guide before using during the trip.


Take a spacious day bag having capacity to pack the things for day use as of water bottles, camera, sun cream or medicine pack those needed etc.


Take a flexible travel bag type of duffle bag. You will pack this bag with the things you don’t need during the day. While traveling the baggage will be loaded on the roof or in the back of the vehicles, hence the day use essential should be packed in day sac or day bag. 


During the safari your bags will be on the roof or on the back of the vehicle. All you need to carry is your day pack which contain your items of day use with pack lunch, water bottle , camera  etc. and some additional items if need to carry in case of bad weather. Your belonging should be well packed in plastic bag to avoid getting wet or avoid dust to entering in the bag if not closed properly.

 Think of to bring rough and tough bag to avoid tearing and scratching. To calm the damage of the bag weather it happen in vehicle while loading or unloading, we advise you to take the appropriate insurance whereas pony man (men) and company will be not liable for such unpredictable loss.


There will be connectivity of foreign mobile phone in cities of Delhi-Chandigarh, Simla and Manali only if you will activate the roaming services before leaving your home country. At most, of the places (except few town) you will find WIFI in hotels, you can use your WhatsApp where Wi-fi facilities are available.


Use of any general satellite phones (Thuraya / Irridium or any others) is strictly prohibited / forbidden in India, It is illegal and is an offence. 

Second:  Some new devices of mobile phone such as I phone  which has facilities of auto connectivity to GPS  through satellite like (type of Garmin in Reach) when you are out of reach to the cell tower or line ,off sight radio communication. Such mobile phone /  I phone  which has facilities of auto connectivity to GPS  through satellite, we request to deactivate such services from your devices before leaving your home country and do not activate  it till you reach back home. 

Any individual found to be in possession of an unauthorized satellite phone in India or found using such services  which are forbidden by law, he / she will be liable to prosecute or can be imprisoned without any bail by Indian law and enforcement agencies.

We, The Himalayan Frontiers as your DMC will have no role and no right to intervene between the persons found guilty and the competitive authority. Matter will be directly under the supervision of the competitive authority of India.


At every visiting site English speaking road captain - a professional motorcyclist will play the role of guide, as for non-rider there is not separate guide in their vehicle. Assistant team will provide the general information’s to the co-travellers when sharing the back up vehicle but they don’t replace the guide.


Drivers, mechanics and road captain will be there to assist you at their best. They are chosen for their experience of riding and provide services in mountains, for their knowledge of the outdoors, local culture and ability to communicate with local and foreign clients. 


During this trip you will be visiting highly revered Buddhist monasteries and temples, where in morning and evening daily ritual is practiced. if you will have occasion to participate such events, you are requested to be silent, respect the rule and regulations and  subject to the permission granted by monks you can join them silently when chanting the mantras in full devotion and in deep emotion.


Generally, vary to different season, Simla, Kinnaur –Kullu-Manali and further down face the monsoon rain during the months of July to Sep. When enter in to Spiti- Lahoul which remain almost rain free part of India due to its geographical location, how ever since few years these regions have noticed the rain due to climatic change. it may appear earlier and can last till end of Sep.


Summer from Mai to August minimum temperature can be recorded from 10 to 15°C and maximum can raise till is 30°C to 35°C 

In Sep. Temperature descend few degrees compare to summer and occasionally in higher regions of Kinnaur, Spiti and Lahoul where you can notice the fresh snow.


 This is mandatory for all clients travelling on any tour/ expedition or independent itinerary arranged by us. You are responsible for obtaining adequate insurance covering expenses of unexpected / unforeseen circumstances as mentioned in liability paragraph, such loss or damage of baggage, medical expenses, war or threat of civil war, strikes, industrial action, political unrest or any other force majeure, unusual or unforeseen circumstance, helicopter (air or ground) rescue, injury, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment of the itinerary.


Your Royal Enfield (Motorbike tour) take place in higher regions varies from 2000 mtrs.to 4700m.  Therefore, Pre-travel conditioning is required, as more you can be prepared the more you enjoy the trips. Minimum altitude where you spend the night is 2000, and maximum is 4000m. We strongly recommend you to consult your personal Doctor before booking this tour.

Age of participant must be minimum of 21 years, holding valid motorbike licence and must experience / competence of riding in such terrain. If the participant found not eligible riding, company deserve the right of cancel his trip without right of refund. 


 Many metropolitan cities in India are not that much conservative, but still in certain part of cities and in rural it is better to dress conservatively, One should not try to attract attention towards themselves due to their dressing style, while entering to religious site one should take off shoes, don’t dress short and half sleeves and are required to cover the head. Mobile is required to be in silent mode, hugging and kissing will shock the people hence restricted in public, to be respected, respect always local people and their culture.


Spiti is a high-altitude desert area, there are lack of oxygen as compare to green regions of Indian Himalaya. You are requested to drink 3-4 liters of the liquid every day. Maintaining hydration is important to prevent the altitude sickness, therefore we advise you to drink regularly. 


You will be acclimatize automatically as your tour is starting from lower altitude toward the higher, so the ascend from low to higher altitude is slow which allows the body to be acclimatize. 


To avoid such circumstance certain tips are to be follow as to avoid the consumption of Alcohol or at least minimize the consumption avoid taking sleeping pills and avoid smoking. Those notice the minor symptoms should inform the guide and should follow the instruction or guide line. There are medical services in several places and team is equipped with Oxygen cylinder and necessary medicine to be taken again symptomatic.

Throughout the trip electricity will be available at every town / places but in this part of India power cut can be noticed often, therefore  we recommend you to bring a high-capacity portable power bank to charge your mobile phones or camera battery if it happen to face such situation.

The voltage is 220V, and the outlets are almost the same as in Europe. In some locations, the power outlets feature wide sockets, so we advise you to bring an adapter.

According to your physical condition you are requested to consult your doctor to complete your medical kit. Aaprt from your personal medical kit Himalayan frontiers will carry a general medicine with Oxygen cylinder.

24-2: Paludism (Malaria):

India is ranked in zone 2 on the risks scale (maximum of 3) above all during the Monsoon (from June to September). To travel in zone 2 requests an anti-paludal treatment, which will be a part of the topics to consult with your doctor before your departure.  Kindly take into account that all the mosquitos are not vectors and sting only during the night, and think to bring a mosquito repellent.  


24-3: Vaccination:

No vaccine is mandatory. However, you have to be up-to-date for classical vaccines. The typhoid, hepatitis A, and hepatitis B are strongly advised. Hepatitis A passes on water and hepatitis B transmits by sexual relations or saliva.

Vaccine against Japanese encephalitis is recommended if you travel in rural farming areas and under special circumstances, such as a known outbreak of Japanese encephalitis.  

Vaccine against yellow fever in only obligatory if you have travelled before in some countries of Africa and South America. 



Kinnaur- Spiti is rural area and is home to different tribes, here culture is well preserved. They have their own tradition even with minor of differences. To visit India you need Indian visa, E visa or ETV Visa is applied online and is more convenient and faster to obtain than classical visa, for classic visa you need to take appointment at VFS or send the documents by post which take more time than ETV. To apply for visa you will complete online visa application (form), upload the copy of passport that you are travelling with, Identity photo of particular size required of Indians standards -JPEG format, visa fee must be paid online by credit card. Once uploading of required documents is complete, you will get mail back with document of granted visa within 48 hours or earlier.  Once Visa granted mail received, you must print it and present it with your plane tickets when boarding and on arrival at the Indian immigration service.
