Bhaba Pass Trek

This trip offers an incredible insight into the remote Kinnaur and Spiti, from the lush green Simla and rural Kafnu in Kinnaur from where the adventure start. Uphill trail traverses the forest land and high-altitude alpine meadows underneath the stunning mountain where graze the herds of local livestock, meandering glacier streams to be negotiated at the places on the way to scenic Bhaba pass. From the pass descend to the starkly beautiful Spiti valley. Here landscape changes dramatically, thick forest of Pine, cedar and deodar are being replaced by the barren lunarscape of Spiti, Spiti also known as “Little Tibet”. The land where Buddhism is flourished, dotted by ancient gompas and scattered little villages. At the end take scenic drive over Kunzum (4550m) and Rohtang pass(3950m), you will appreciate the fascinating alpine zone amidst the high mountainous ranges and cascading water fall to Manali.


Day 1: Arrive Shimla (1900m)
Day 2: Simla to Kafnu (2400m) 190 km. 7-8h drive 

Day 3: Kafnu to Mulling (3180m) 5-6 hours) Trek 1

Day 4: Mulling - Kara (3500m) 3-4h Trek 2

Day 5 Kara - Base of Bhaba pass Or Fustirang (3940m) 5-6h, Trek 3

Day 6: Fustirang - Bara Bulander (3963 Meter) over Bhaba pass (4850m).6h,Trek 4

Day 7: Bara Balander-Mud (3800m) 5-6h, Trek 5- drive to Kaza 2h30 drive

Day 8: Kaza to Manali (2000m) 7-8h Over Kunzum 4550m

Day 1: Arrive Simla (1900m)

Arrive Simla, report at the designated hotel.  Check in time is 12 noon onward. Afternoon meeting at the hotel reception followed by the briefing of the trek. Meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) at your own charge. Night in hotel.        

Day 2: Shimla to Kafnu (2400m) 190 km. 7-8h drive

Meet at decided place in Simla at 7AM. Drive via Kufri, Narkandha and descend to the Rampur erstwhile Himalayan kingdom of Rampur Busheher. Continue to our journey followings the Sutlej valley. After while leave the main road and take diversion to Kafanu, the starting point of the trek. Night in guest house / camp. 


Day 3: Kafnu to Mulling (3180m) 5-6 hours) Trek 1

First day of trek, trail across the Homti village, follow gradual trail in beginning and later path get steeper’s, continue walking through the varieties of dense forest of cedar, pine and birch, lush green meadows which are summer graze for the cattle. Following the river which takes you to the beautiful camp site. Night in camp.
En-route there is river which is crossed over bridge. 


Day 4: Mulling - Kara (3500m) 3-4h 
Trek 2

It’s a short day of trek as compare to the first day. Trail goes up following the river, while walking you will enjoy breathtaking scenery, wild flowers are seen in abundance sub. To the season. There is possibility to meet the shepherds who lives there with their herds on high altitude graze. A beautiful camp site is set on a meadow.  En-route there are streams which are easy to cross by human chain however rope is carried along in case water leave is increased due to rain or high melting rate of snow in early season (early July). Night in camp

Day 5: Kara - Base of Bhaba pass Or Fustirang (3940m) 5-6h, Trek 3

Today leave early for two reason. One is to cross the river as in morning water level is lower. Crossing is always advised by human chain; however, rope is carried along in case water leave is increased due to rain or high melting rate of snow in early season (early July).  Its strongly advised never try free crossing of river even it looks small but flow is strong enough.

Second reason is as altitude is rising, walking rhythm get slower, therefore earlier start is recommended. Follow the left bank of the river, enjoy the stunning beauty of surrounding snow caped mountains and lush green valley’s spreading downward with its sprawling meadow.  you may again encounter the Shepherds on the way or nearby camp site. Night in camp.


Day 6: Fustirang - Bara Bulander (3963 Meter) Over Bhaba pass (4850m). 6h, 
Trek 4

Early start is recommended to have good view (in clear weather) from the pass, Uphill trail start walking over scree’s and boulders till the top . Enjoy the extensive view of surrounding Himalaya, you will notice that landscape change dramatically from lush green Kinnaur to the arid Spiti valley. Descend toward the camp site, Sub to the season you may accompany by the herds of transhumance and may encounter the herds to yaks in higher pasture of Spiti. Night in camp.

Day 7: Bara Balander-Mud (
3800m) 5-6h, Trek 5- drive to Kaza 2h30 drive

After breakfast, day start with easy walk, en-route passing by small hamlet where shepherds during the summer with their herds, enjoy the magnificent scenery of multicolor hue, arid landscape and towering peaks.   You will cross pin river with all protection taken by the guide, continue following the pin river till Mud village, the first village of the spiti valley since you left the Kafanu- Homti at the beginning of the trek.    Encounter the villagers and drive to kaza through Pin Valley known for its national park (Valley of the snow leopards and ibexes).  If time allows visit ( or take glimpse ) of Kungri gompa is the main center of Nyingmapa sect in Spiti, further drive to Kaza.  Explore the tiny town once important center for the bartered trade between India and Tibet. Night in hotel.


Day 8:
 Kaza to Manali (2000m) 7-8h Over Kunzum 4550m 

Road leads through several villages of Spiti valley, the last village of the valley is Lossar. Short uphill drive till Kunzum pass (4550 m.) offers extensive view of the snowcapped mountains. Temple located at pass is dedicated to the Goddess Kunzum adorned by prayer flags, pay homage to the goddess and continue driving by alpine Chandra valley and through the newly made ATAL Tunnel a new gateway between Lahoul-Spiti and Kullu “the valley of the God”.  Reach manali hotel for your dinner and the stay.


Day 9: Free day & Departure

Its free day to explore Manali, Evening drop at volvo bus stand Manali.

End of services.  



Note: En-route easy crossing of three small stream by human chain however rope is carried along in case water leave is increase due to rain or high melting rate of snow in early season (early July). Two main rivers are crossed by temporary bridges installed every year in beginning of season.

By air: There are regular flights from Delhi-Chandigarh to Shimla. Airport is located out of Shimla city. Taxi can be booked in advance or on arrival at pre-paid booth.

By Road: Shimla is well connected to Chandigarh-Delhi. Overnight Volvo buses are run by Himachal road ways transport, Himachal tourism and private tour operators from Delhi. Online booking facilities are available to book the tickets for the choice of your date.

By Train: Shimla is well connected by train from Delhi-Chandigarh to Kalka, Kalka onward connection is conducted by world famous heritage train (Toy train)

Briefing of the trip: Briefing of trip will start on 7 am on day of reporting before departure. Every participant is requested to be on time. Those missing the briefing will be not repeated for those late arrival as long journey has to be undertaken till the starting point of the trek, thee fore do your best to be punctual. We strongly advice to be in Shimla the day earlier to a avoid inconvenience.

No Show of participant:  Those who could not reach timely on reporting day will be considered no show. No show of participant will enforce Himalayan Frontiers to cancel their booking. Those who considered non- shown please consult the terms and condition policies applied by company. To avoid such inconvenience, we advise each participant to reach Shimla the day earlier the trek start and be on time to avoid delay of trek start.

Above mentioned items should preferably be packed in a rucksack that is easier to carry. Please do handle the plastic/polythene bags and don’t carry any disposable items, ornaments and other valuables.

All booking for the tours/treks is made with Himalayan Frontiers, herein after referred to as ‘the company’ and are subject to the conditions:

the person signing the booking form accepts the conditions and is hereafter referred to as the client.

The Company cannot be made liable for the consequences of weather condition, flight cancellations, war or threat of civil war, strikes, industrial action, political unrest or any other force majeure, unusual or unforeseen circumstance. The company reserves the right to use alternate transport, or vary the itinerary if breakdown, sickness or any other force major. Any additional that result, such as extra hotel accommodation, flight or road transport will be on your charge and must be paid directly at the spot.

Please understand, there are certain hazards involved in your adventurous and culture holidays which you must accept at your own risk. The company will not be liable for any illness major or minor injury, death sustained during neither the trip, nor it will be liable for any uninsured losses of your property and other losses during the trip.

Trekking route is sub. to change in case of inaccessibility over Bhaba pass due to thickness of snow layer (in early season) which will depend on the winter snow fall rates, can be due to present climatic condition such as fresh snow falls which can also cause the road block, can be due to physical unfitness or sickness of participant. 

To cope with such situation a suitable decision will be taken on the spot keeping in mind the favor of both organizer (s) and the participant (s).  In that case no compensation / No refund will be made to any individual or to the whole group or to the tour operator (s). Any extra cost if occur due to changing the route, company may ask the participant to contribute to balance the surcharges. We request you to accept such unexpected / unforeseen beyond control of anyone and co-operate with such nature occurred ​circumstances. Any matters arising from it will be governed by and construed in accordance with the jurisdiction of the law courts in Manali (India)

 

This trek is moderate grade, accessible for beginner trekker in good physical condition. Heart patients are not allowed to undertake this trek as part of the trip take place in dry cold desertic region of Spiti where lack of oxygen is omnipresent as compare to the first part before Bhaba pass.

This is mandatory for all clients travelling on any tour/ trek or independent itinerary arranged by us. You are responsible for obtaining adequate insurance covering expenses of unexpected as mentioned in liability paragraph. the loss of baggage, medical expenses, helicopter (air or ground) rescue, injury, death, repatriation, cancellation and curtailment of the itinerary.

 

*It is strongly advised that client’s takeout insurance to cover the unexpected and cancellation charges.

No refund will be made for any unused services included in the tour / trek cost. No refund will be payable to any client who voluntarily or obliged to leaves a trip en route, clients are responsible to bear their own expenses, expenses of such as escort, transport, hotels and other related services occurred due to such circumstances.

For foreign nation participants additional charges will be add on to buy the foreign currency, (hence buying the currency charges has to be borne by clients) bank transfer (wire transfer) charges and other administrative paperwork to be completed which is quite long exhausted process, we request you to understand and co-operate with. We will do our best possible to deal such cases respecting the present circumstances.

Client agree to accept the authority and the decision of the tour/ trek leader or escort appointed by the company whilst on tour with the company. If in the opinion of the tour/ trek leader, any client’s behaviour is detrimental to the safety, welfare or harmonious state of the group as a whole, the client may be asked to leave the tour / trek without any right of refund and all extra expenses caused will be on his/her charge.

 

The organisers or any individual connected with the camp shall not be held responsible of any accident or any unforeseen natural calamity

 

Last moment changes on programme will not be acceptable. Final decision on any dispute will be taken by HIMALAYAN FRONTIERS Pvt. Ltd. only.

 

Participants are not allowed to go out of campsite without permission of Himalayan Frontier authorities.

 

Participants are expected to be in discipline. One can be dismissed from the programme/camp who found to be misbehaving with any individual or staff members, without prior notice.

 

Team Spirit: Remember there are certain challenges in your adventure holidays, during the trek you may encounter bad weather, your co-trekkers may injure or tired, you should not hesitate to give hand to those who are seeking for help.

 

You will encounter mountain stream which has to be cross by human chain or by other relevant method under supervision of our expert and experienced tour guide / trek leader. Every participant is advised to follow their instruction to the safety and welfare of everyone. Remember that every hazardous situation can be successfully dealt when we work in team, so please keep the team spirit alive at every instant.

 

Note: Multi-use light Plastic sneakers or shoes which can be easily dry are advised to carry to cross the mountain streams and which also can use as camp shoes.

 

Leave the foot prints behind but not the trash: Himalayan Frontiers is very sensible about environments concern. This is our extreme responsibility together to take serious care of our surrounding. If we expect / appreciate to travel in trash free zone, it’s very important to let the zone trash free to others. We request every participant to not litter any single wrapper, any items of non-biodegradable, such items should be brought back to the camp site everyday and dispose at the dust bin of camp or the best will be to bring down to Manali, hand over to the team members on arrival who will further care of it very responsibly. Contribution of each participant to this initiative will be highly appreciated.

40% of total program cost should be deposited in advance for booking.

 

Balance payment should be made at least 7 days before the tour begins.

 

The amount paid once is not transferable to any other program /tour or to any other individual(s)/group or for any other service.
