Sandakphu Trek
This is a moderate trek for an average age group of 15 to 70 years old. It offers enchanting view of the surrounding Himalayan peaks; the trail goes through the dense forest, villages of Sherpas, alpine meadows and turreted rivers. Before and after the trek, you will visit the Major Town of Darjeeling and ‘Gangtok’, the capital of Sikkim. You will definitely appreciate the ancient monasteries, handicraft center, museum and the gardens.


Day 1:-Arrival at Delhi

Day 2:-Delhi to Darjeeling via Bagdogra (2,135m)

Day 3:-Darjeeling

Day 5:-Tonglu to Kalipokhari via Gairibas (3170 meters) 4 hours; Trek- 2

Day 6:-Kalipokhari-Sandakphu (3636 meters) 4 hours; Trek- 3

Day 7:-Sandakphu-Phalut (3600 meters) 5 hours; Trek- 4

Day 8:-Phalut-Ramam 5 hours; Trek- 5

Day 9:-Ramam-Rimbik; Trek- 6

Day 10:-Rimbik-Darjeeling

Day 11:-Darjeeling-Gangtok (1,600mtrs) 4 to 5 hours

Day 1: Arrival Delhi

Reception at the international airport; transfer to the hotel and overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 2: Delhi to Darjeeling via Bagdogra (2,135m)

Transfer to Domestic airport for flight to Bagdogra. Assistance on arrival at Bagdogra and 3 hours’ drive to Darjeeling, built by Britishers in mid of 18th century. Today, Darjeeling is an important tourist destination of West Bengal, also known for the world class tea. On arrival, check-in to the hotel and rest of the time at your leisure.

Day 3: Darjeeling

Today, we will drive very early around 4.30 am to tiger hill to see the dawn on Kangchanjunga (8,548m). A magnificent view of massive mountains and other Himalayan peaks can be seen from here. Back to the hotel for the breakfast; take ride on world famous toy train to Ghoom monastery one of the most famous monasteries in Darjeeling; Botanical Gardens and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute. After lunch stroll in the tea garden, evening at leisure and overnight at hotel.

Day 4: Darjeeling to Manebhanjang to Tonglu (3070meters), 4 hours; Trek- 1

After two hours trek we reach Manebhanjang, inhabited by Buddhist Sherpas. An awesome view of the trekking route can be enjoyed here; an uphill trek through dense forest with variety of wild flowers in spring season is unforgettable. After 11kms trek, we reach Tonglo campsite.

Day 5: Tonglu to Kalipokhari via Gairibas (3170 meters) 4 hours; Trek- 2

Trail goes through bamboo bushes and small villages. Now take an uphill path which leads us through the forest of Rhododendron to the campsite.

Day 6: Kalipokhari-Sandakphu (3636 meters) 4 hours; Trek -3

Two-three hours road descends to Bikhebhangang, also called the Valley of Poison. Now a steep climb of 4kms towards the campsite and commands one of the most spectacular views of the valley.

Day 7: Sandakphu-Phalut (3600 meters) 5 hours; Trek- 4

One of the most beautiful treks through the forest, after 4 hours we reach at Sabarkum, the trail passes by a beautiful house located on the ridge to Phalut.

Day 8: Phalut-Ramam 5 hours; Trek- 5

Almost 15kms trek, now trail descends through the forest of pines and chestnut to Gorkhey Khola (stream), a beautiful place for lunch. After the lunch, we leave to campsite via Samandin.

Day 9: Ramam-Rimbik; Trek- 6

Gradual walk in beginning, then descend to Sirikhola, now uphill path for about ½ km and again an easy walk till Rimbik, where one can have trekkers hut or camp for overnight stay.

Day 10: Rimbik-Darjeeling

Four hours drive to Darjeeling; check-in to the hotel and afternoon at your leisure, overnight in the hotel.

Day 11: Darjeeling-Gangtok (1,600mtrs) 4- 5 hours

Drive on the windy road through several villages where farmers can be seen cultivating their fields; we reach the Capital town by afternoon; check- in to the hotel, evening at leisure.

Day 12: Gangtok

Excursion to Rumtek Monastery (Dharma Chakra Centre) 24kms from Gangtok is the seat of the Kagyu order. Later visit the Botanical garden; after lunch stroll in the Bazar, overnight at the hotel.

Day 13: Gangtok-Bagdogra-Delhi

Two hours of drive to Bagdogra, flight to Delhi, transfer to the hotel, overnight at the hotel.

Day 14: Departure

Sight seen at Delhi, by the evening transfer to the airport and flight to onward destination; end of the service.

Less than 30 days before departure The agency will be obliged to withhold the full amount of the deposit paid by the customer. In this case, the customer must inform their insurance as soon as possible and provide as much documentation to support the cancellation of trip. It is therefore h3ly advised to take out cancellation insurance to cover such expenses.
    Itinerary / hotels are sub. to change in case of strike, civil war threat, you may be will lose expected places you have prepared for but will explore unexpected and for sure will not disappointed. In case of Vehicle break down another mode of transport will be managed at the earliest possible, In that case you are requested to keep patience and co-operate with the situation, while travelling to rural and isolated area replacing vehicle can take time due to lac of communication. It is very much possible that Pony / Mule /yaks can disappear during the night when get scared by wild animal such as snow leopards and wolf and can be impossible to trace out, in that case getting new team of pony / horse /yaks cannot immediately arranged. You can loose one or more days to get arranged mode such of transport. In case unavailability of pony / horse /yaks tour itinerary can be curtailed or changed completely from the trekking to cultural tour for the remaining days. We need your co-operation to understand the present situation and contribution to cover extra expanses occured due to such circumstance.
    The Company cannot be made liable for the consequences of weather condition, flight cancellations, war or threat of civil war, strikes, industrial action, political unrest or any other force majeure, unusual or unforeseen circumstance. The company reserves the right to use alternate transport, or vary the itinerary if breakdown, sickness or any other force major. Any additional that result, such as extra hotel accommodation, flight or road transport will be on your charge and must be paid directly at the spot. Please understand, there are certain hazards involved in your adventurous and culture holidays which you must accept at your own risk.     Accommodation is based on 3 star category in cities, Neat and clean local standards of hotels will be provided in Leh. While trekking you will be assisted by kitchen with with all necessary items including to men spacious tent, mattress, dining tents from 4 persons onward, toilet tents and all necessary items.     While driving, sub. to the number of person in group, for 2-4+ guide Toyota Innova, for more than 5 persons Tempo travelers or mini bus. All vehicle will be air-conditioned, except in hilly area air-condition of any vehicle can not be regularly used due to steep uphill drive, So you have to co-operate with. While trekking logistic will be transported. by mule / porters or Yaks, you are requested to not carry more than 15 kgs as even domestic airline limit the weight till 15 kgs. Exceeding 15kgs of weight will result the surcharges as per the airline law, even excess baggage’s will increase the weight on animal back which we should understand and respect the limit. 2: Road You will use road for sight seen and to reach at the starting point of trek and from the end of the trek to Darjeeling. But still you can face land slide due to usual rainfall in Darjeeling and can be blocked for few hours or for a day. you may miss the places expected to visit, or will visit the unexpected places, to regulate the situation the team at the spot will do the best possible at the moment. Road in India are being widen So please don’t compare the driving time as estimated in developed nation.
    You will have 4 days of moderate trekking, time of walk vary from 4 to 6 hours (time can be lengthen or shorten sub. to the physical strength or rhythm of each individual) one have to carry high necked of trekking shoes and walking stick those who wish. .
    Preparation of relief of sun burn, Lip salve, Anti septic cream, Antihistamine cream (for relief of insect bites), Anti diarrhea (flagyl or any other), Anti headach (diamox, aspirin,paracitamol, zimalgin), Anti vomiting (avomin), For stomachach (baralgan,trigan or other diagnose) Dettol, washproof dettol plaster, Bandage and cotton, Balm, Anti cramp spray, Pills to purify the water, Scisor and knife are must in the medical kit. According to your physical condition you are requested to consult your doctor to complete your medical kit. Apart from that HIMALAYAN FRONTIERS also provides an additional medical kit including oxygen cylinder and Diamox with each group. Special precaution is taken to pack some medicine to deal with Prevention from Altitude sickness.
    You will be guided by a professional Englsih speaking mountain guide. Kitchen team will be at your service with necessary items, Horse/ Ponies or porters in specific route will be carrying the load while trekking. Once reaching at campsite your assistance to team members will be appreciated to establish the camp site.
    Generally, vary to different season, Darjeeling remain one among most rainy part of north east India due to its tropical climate. Subject to the season and regions climate is variable in each region. its semi tropical Autumn, winter is cool and summers is hot and it rains lots. On the other hand, in the Himalayas severe winters and cool summers are prevalent. Darjeeling is botanists’ paradise. Rare and exotic faunas found here. Temperature in low altitude vary from minimum 5 to 10°C and maximum 13-30°C , in higher altitude temperature goes down but while in bad weather temperature can go under Zero during late autumn and in winter, so please be prepared accordingly.
    Pre-travel conditioning is very desirable, as more you are prepared the more you enjoy the trips. For such trek required good physic, previous trekking experience will make your way easier to attempt the goal to complete the scenic trek. As we gain altitude slowly, so we get acclimatize naturally. And for the vast majority the slow ascent to height will produce minimum effects.
