Description

In the East of Ladakh, on the Indo-Tibetan border between India and Tibet, extends the vast plateau of Chang-Thang, the area of the nomads Changpas. Having crossed several passes, you will discover waters of the Salt Lake Tsokar, and farther in the East in Rupshu, immense Lake Tsomoriri near Karzok, the main village of Rupshu, at 4572 m above the sea level. The climate is extreme: very low temperature at night and very high under a burning sun during the day. The air is very dry as eternal snow line is found at the altitude of 6000m and more.

The fauna adapted itself to the harshness of the climate. We can see Kyang, (wild donkeys) who come to graze near the lake Tsokar, much more rarely the leopards of snow but also the multitude of exotic birds.

Mentok Kangri 11 - 6210m and Mentok 1 -6172m

Mentok is the Tibetan name of a wild flower growing in this region to the summer season. The approach towards the base camp till Karzok is relatively easy through open valley moorland and boulder at the end. While ascending these peaks, minimum of technique and experience but good physic is required.

This is a lovely peak on a long ridge running south from Korzok village on the shores of the Tso Moriri Lake. In July and August, the entire Korzok valley is green with wild flowers giving the peak its name âMentokâ means flower in Tibet and Ladakh. In some old maps this peak has been named Mata. The summit is a superb reward for your effort, giving magnificent views in every direction.

Important note: Be at Leh at least 3 days prior to starts the trek.
