Trek in Spiti and Climb Kanamo peak: 5950m

Kanamo , Or locally called white Lady, stand high behind the Kibber village, is one of the easily accessible peak of Spiti region which does not required technical climbing skill but for sure one need to get well acclimatized before attempting to summit and is required good physical fitness.

This trek may also allows to encounter with Himalayan Fauna as of Tibetan wolves, Ibex, Blue Sheep and elusive Snow Leopard whereas abundance of flora is seen in summer. 

Spiti  also known as Little Tibet , The topography of the Spiti is marked by high mountains and narrow rivers valleys with flat land being an uncommon occurrence. The rugged climate and high altitude makes the region somewhat difficult for human habitation . The  great range of the main Himalayas in back ground, is  beautiful and refreshing .

You will explore the centuries  old monasteries belongs to Tibetan Buddhism where monks practicing meditation and other monastic rituals, preserving old Stucco images, and Thangkas depicting different life stories of Guru Padmasambhava, the founder of Gelug-Pa sect, People of Spiti lives  with their herds  of Yak, Sheep and goats, they grow Barely and other vegetable, They are hospital able and are still following the century old  Tibetan tradition 



Day 1: Morning arrival in Manali (2000m). and Hike. 

Day 2: Manali to Lossar –Kaza (4050 mtrs.) 6 to 7 hours. over Rohtang pass(3950m) and Kunzum pass (4550m). 

Day 3: Kaza to Dhankar 3,894 metres via Tabo: 63km

Day 4: Dhankar to Lalung. ( 3 800m) 4hours, trek 1. 

Day 7: Lalung – Damul- Dhoksa : 4500m. 5-6h, trek 2

Day 6: Dhoksa to Langza (4100m) via Kaumic and Hikkim, 5h, trek 3

Day 7 : Langza to Kibber ( 4200m ) via Tashigang and Gete. 6h, trek 4

Day 8: Kibber to Kanamo base camp. ( 4921m) 4-5 h., trek 5

Day 9 : Day to acclimatize at base camp. Trek 6

Day 10: Summit day: ( 5950m ) 6-8h. climbing day.

Day 11: Kanamo base to Kibber, 4200m, 4-5h. trek 7

Day 14: Manali to Delhi, 14 hours, 570 km by night volvo bus 



Day 1: Morning arrival in Manali (2000m). and Hike. 
Morning reached Manali,  check in hotel, Visit the temple of Manu at old Manali, The Hadimba Devi temple is famous for its association with the Mahabharata temple , Shiva temple and monastery in town are main attraction, afternoon free in town, Night in hotel.

 Day 2: Manali to Lossar (4050 mtrs.) – Kaza (3800 m) 6 to 7 hours.
Drive along the Beas river by snake curved road to  Rohtang pass (3950 mtrs)   from the pass enjoy the magnificent view of the Chandra -Bhaga mountain range . Down hill drive to the Gramphu and follow the rough road towards the east along the true left bank of the Chandra opposite of river  is an excellent view of upper Bara Shigri glaciers peaks culminated  above 6000mtrs.

Uphill drive to the Kunzum pass (4550 mtrs.) enjoy stunning view of  Himalaya, visit temple dedicated to the Goddess Kunzum Devi. Descend for next 11 kms to the first campsite before the Lossar village  and further to Kaza the administrative center of Spiti. night in hotel.

Day 3: Kaza to Dhankar  (3894 m)via Tabo: 63km
Drive to south to visit Tabo monastery which has been founded in 996 A.D . contain exquisite frescoes and stuco statues, often called the Ajanta of Himalayas. In trans Himalayas Buddhism Tabo sanctity is next only to Tibet’s Tholing gompa. 

Visit to Dhankar the ancient capital of the Spiti king, the most incredibly situated gompa perched high on the barren rocky mountain slopes. The sixth century Dhankar Gompa, though not well preserved still has some magnificant original Thankas and statues tucked away in dark rooms. Night in camp.

Day 4: Dhankar to Lalung. (3 800m) 4hours, trek 1. 
Take two hours of the steady trek to Dhankar lake that provide the extensive view of Surounding Himalaya including Manirang peak erected in front opposite of Lake, Further track leads by gradual descend to the Lalung, literally means 'land of the gods , camp site is set out of village, By evening visit the village and specially donot miss to visit the Lalung monastery containing stucco images and Thankas , Monastery is fouded by the great Tibetan Buddhist lotswa “ translator” the Rinchen Zangpo and belongs to the Ge-lug-pa (Gelugpa ) order of Tibetan Budhism, Night in Camp.

Day 5: Lalung – Damul- Dhoksa : 4500m. 5-6h, trek 2
Descend to the river bank, A tributary of Spiti river which flows though Lingthi valley located at the vicinity of Tibet border at its east , A steady climb of almost 3 hours by Zig-Zag trail to the Damul village, day can be scorching heat in Summer, hence you are advised to prepare for  sun protection. Visit Damul Villaage, further short gradual walk of an hours or more to Dhoksa by crossing a small pass, night in camp.

Day 6: Dhoksa to Langza (4100m) via Kaumic and Hikkim, 5h, trek 3
A scenic trail high over the spiti valley, after an hours  of walk reach to Comic village housing one of the highest monastery of the world,. after  short walk you will entre  in to a rustic village of Hikkim built of mud bricks as most of the Tibetan traditional houses .Take further easy trail to Langza, a bowl shaped villages  located on the foot of mount Cahu Chau kang Nilda peak  also locally known as princess mountain on which the sun & moon shine. 'here Fossil can collect in its outskirts for which Spiti is known as  live museum.  However millions of years ago Spit  submerged under the Tethys Sea,  Hence  the remnants of its geological past are witnessed  in the unique  barren landscape and the diverse fossils which are found here.. evening  stroll in the village to interact with villagers, night in camp.

Day 7: Langza to Kibber ( 4200m ) via Tashigang and Gete. 6h, trek 4
Easy path leads to a cliffy patch which has become arduous and risky due to land slide caused by torrential flow of Shila Nalla ( Stream ) flowing below. However local resident repair it time to time.

Climb gradually to Tashigang village with few houses, further trail goes through the farms land grown with barley ( by which local  prepare the famous Tsampa and  to brew local beer called Chhang ), peas now became an additional source of income by  exporting to the neighboring cities. Afternon reached at kibber with its few modern houses and a gompa on the top of village founded by Serkhang Rinpoche of 

Tabo. ( can found closed ) contains the ancient Thankas  and is perfect place to admire the beauty of desert landscape. Kibber has its charismatic look due to its fortified structure and is known as one of the heighest  permenant habitant village among Gete and Tashigang you came to across on the way. 

(If the path is not advisable to cross in that case you will be transferred by vehicle till Kye Monastery, After visiting the monastery  you will start the trek and will join the route  between Kibber and Gete)

Day 8: Kibber to Kanamo base camp. ( 4921m) 4-5 h., trek 5
Leave to the base camp, A ,steady, gradual and level trail leads from the village of Kibber through farm land, high altitude  pasture where herds of yaks can be seen grazing and rocky slope that brings to the lake formed as depository of water supplying to the village. After 4-5 hours of walk reached at campsite will be established near the Kanamo lake, night in camp. 

 Be Privileged of Star gazing in clear weather.

Altitude gain –515m.


Day 9: Day to acclimatize at base camp. Trek 6
Walk around the base camp to get the better acclimatize before climbing the peak.

Day 10: Summit day: ( 5950m ) 6-8h. climbing day.
This is a special day for each of climbers which they dreamed to achieve, leave early in morning, cross the boulder and moraine patches, further on take south east ridge, while in early season there can be snow, once at the top of the peak, your dream comes true and that is the moment of joy and emotion. Climbers are rewarded by 360 degree view of Surrounding Himalayan peaks.  After spending few minutes at summit, descend back to base camp, night in camp.

Day 11: Kanamo base to Kibber, 4200m, 4-5h. trek 7
Take same trail to get back till  village, Once again be privileged by hospitality  of your host.  Afternoon stroll in village. Night in family house.


Day 12 : Kibber to Hansa (3 650m) 5-6h de trek, trek 8
Last day of trek, after few minutes of walk path leads in to the deep gorge following the paved path to the stream bed and climb up other side to come out from the gorge, Here  you will join ancient trade route that linked between India and Tibet and bit further  you will reach at the  famous ground called La Darcha where once barter trade festival used to held between  the merchants from both the coutry India and Tibet.

 Graduel long descend to Hansa high over the Spiti river projecting the view of North east of Spiti, Later afternoon reached at Hansa , after seting the camp site visit Village and its small Gompa hooked in the cliff with great importance of both Hindu and Budhist which is not often visited by tourist,  night in camp

Day 13: Hansa -  Manali. 2000m. 160km 7-8h 
Road leads through several villages of Spiti valley , the last  village  of  the  valley is Lossar. Short uphill drive till Kunzum pass (4700 m.) offers extensive view of the snow capped mountains. Temple located at pass is dedicated to the Goddess Kunzum adorned by prayer flags, pay homage to the goddess  and continue driving by  alpine Chandra valley under benath of sheer mountains , over Rohtang pass (4050 m.) the  gateway between Lahoul -Spiti and Kullu “ the valley of the God”. Descend from Rohtang Pass  via the snake-curved road, the pasture of wild flowers ( I summer ) , forest of silver Oak, Fir and conifer trees amidst the waterfalls  and panoramic view really gives a sense of satisfaction and joy. Overnight stay in hotel in Manali.

    By air: Bhuntar at the distance of 50 kms from Manali, taxi can be booked on arrival and local bus station is at proximity of airport.  please note that by bus 1h30 to 2 hours of journey.

    By road: Manali is well connected to Delhi.  Overnight Volvo buses are run by Himachal road ways transport, Himachal tourism and private tour operators. Online booking facilities are available to book the tickets for the choice of your date.

    Arrival time of buses at Manali is between 10 to 11 am. Reporting time at designated place is the 15h. 

    Briefing of the trip: Briefing of trip will start afternoon on day of arrival, every participant is requested to be on time.  Those missing the briefing will be not repeated for those late arrival.


    To book an expedition complete and sign the booking form and post or mail to the company with your deposit of 30% of the total amount by bank transfer or by payment Online through the site: www.himalayanfrontiers.com. Acceptance of the clients booking will be confirmed in written. The balance is to be paid 30 days before the scheduled departure.

    All the cancellation must be in written and signed by the person who signed the booking form and will be effective from the date of the reception by the company.

    30 days or more before departure:
    The agency will refund the entire paid amount to his client deducting the registration fee (INR 3000rs per persons or equivalent in other currency), GST paid at the time of booking and bank charges subject to the bank policies. 

    29 to15 Days before departure: The agency will refund the 50% of paid amount to his client deducting the registration fee (INR 3000rs per persons or equivalent in other currency), GST paid at the time of booking and bank charges subject to the bank policies. 

    Less than 14 days before departure: The agency will be obliged to withhold the full amount of the deposit paid by the customer. In this case, the customer must inform their insurance as soon as possible and provide as much documentation to support the cancellation of trip. It is therefore strongly advised to take out cancellation insurance to cover such expenses.

    Those who cancel their trip, following the terms and conditions norms as per the time period we will refund the advance or full payment made to book the trip by deducting the applicable taxes as of GST, bank charges, file charges and other applicable taxes and charges. For foreign client’s differences of currency buying has to be borne as per the present exchange rates.

    For foreign nation participants additional charges will be add on to buy the foreign currency, (hence buying the currency charges has to be borne by clients) bank transfer (wire transfer) charges and other administrative paperwork to be completed which is quite long exhausted process, we request you to understand and co-operate with.
