After exploring the Manali (Kullu valley) you will drive over the Rohtang pass (4050 m) through the summer pasture of the local shepherd to the barren land of Spiti also known as the Little Tibet. The topography of the Spiti is marked by high mountains and narrow rivers, valleys with flat land being an uncommon occurrence. The rugged climate and high altitude makes the region somewhat difficult for human habitation. The great range of the main Himalayas in the back ground is beautiful and refreshing. Wild life such as Ibex and Thar can be seen in the herds as well as the snow wolves too. You will explore the centuries old monasteries belonging to Tibetan Buddhism where the monks practice meditation and other monastic rituals, preserving old Stucco images and Thangkas depicting different life stories of Guru Padmasambhava, the founder of Gelug-Pa sect. People of Spiti live with their herds of Yak, Sheep and goats. They grow Barely and other vegetables; the people are hospitable and in villages still maintain the century old tradition. This is leisure trek, accessible for all.
